Fail Estate Agents

Most real-estate agents are stupid. This blog is dedicated to them.

Oi, Sheila!

About three or four weeks ago, I came across a house in Ashgrove that looked really promising - big, bright and within my budget.  And it’s a house - I’ve not lived in one of those for many years.

I e-mailed the agent asking to arrange a time to inspect.  It hadn’t been on the market long so I expected a response pretty quickly.  Instead, I waited - for a week.  When I heard nothing, I called and left a message for her to call me back.

As you can probably guess, I waited another week.  Nothing.  This woman was either ignoring me, or had been eaten by bears.  So, I sent another e-mail along the lines of: “Are you interested in selling this house?  You might want to return a call or e-mail”.

Like I was expecting, I heard nothing.

You might be surprised that a real-estate agent, whose job it is to sell, would ignore two e-mails and a phone call from a prospective buyer.  Yet, this happens all the time.  I’m not entirely sure why but suspect it’s because by the time you reach out to them, the property in question is under contract.

This is a stupid strategy.  Not only will I never consider buying a property from Sheila Oliver (yes, that’s really her name), but I’ll make it a goal in life to blacklist the agency she works for.  I hold a grudge like no body’s business.

It’s such a shame.  My housewarming out on that deck would’ve been such fun.
